Obama in Kenya

I've been filming The Stone Age Man [a documentary about the life, work and personality [similar to Leonardo da Vinci] of EINO] for the last 9 months. When we planned our trip to a town near Nairobi, Kenya, I had no idea what was in store for me. I thought I was going there to interview an Olympic runner and what I found there was so much more...

On our way to visit the home of Ibrahim Hussain, the 3-time winner of the Boston Marathon, as usual, our trip was rerouted. Eino takes care of the logistics of most of our travels because he has the relationships with our interviewees. And, most of the time, we show up [this time, to Africa!] to the sound of, "Eino, what are you doing here? I had no idea you were coming this week..." But, as bad as that sounds, that is always the beginning of something special and unscripted and will make for an exciting film... even though it has led me to 2 near death experiences in the last 2 months... But this time, it led to meeting a woman with a heart the size of Texas...
Phyllis Keino runs the LEWA Children's Home for abandoned children on a small farm just north of Eldoret. Her story is amazing. Years ago, she adopted 1 child. Since then, she has adopted over 400 children. She is an amazing women.... the African Mother Theresa...

In the photo above is Obama. The amazing thing about him is the look in his eye and the expression on the girls face just behind him. These children are happy and full of hope because one woman decided years ago that she was going to make a difference. Phyllis currently cares for 100 children and employs women in the community that help her at the home.

I'm still on the African clock and may have a case of malaria. My wife is furious with me because I stopped taking my malaria tablets half way in to the trip.

...more on my documentary later. I have a great story about Eino jumping out of our car as we were driving down the highway, another story about me riding a camel through the desert in Israel and, lastly, being abducted by a terrorist in the UK who fed me curry...
